Dr. Ernest A. Graypel is a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience in clinical psychiatry, behavioral health leadership, medical education, and clinical research. He earned his medical degree from Saratov State Medical University and completed his psychiatry residency through the Center for Behavioral Medicine in Kansas City and Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He also holds a Master of Health Administration from Webster University.
Dr. Graypel serves as Medical Director of Community and Long-Term Care Psychiatry, Medical Director at Harris House Foundation, and Psychiatric Director at Kindred St. Louis Hospital. He is certified as a Nursing Home Administrator by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Administrators (FACHCA). His clinical practice spans outpatient psychiatry, hospital consultation, and long-term care, where he provides individualized, evidence-based treatment that integrates medication management with psychotherapy.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Graypel is a Principal Investigator with Tekton Research, leading clinical trials evaluating investigational treatments for psychiatric and neurologic conditions. Through clinical research, he helps advance new treatment options while providing eligible patients access to innovative therapies.
Dr. Graypel also serves as a Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor at A.T. Still University. In 2022, he was named Preceptor of the Year by A.T. Still University students at Mercy South Hospital. Previously, he held statewide and regional psychiatric leadership roles overseeing psychiatric services within the Missouri Department of Corrections.
A published author and frequent regional, national, and international speaker, Dr. Graypel wrote Graypel’s Review of Dementias and Adult Cognitive Impairments for Non-Psychiatrists and has developed several registered psychiatric screening tools. He has also been recognized as a Lifetime Member of Top Doctors of America for his professional achievements and commitment to patient care. Dr. Graypel remains dedicated to advancing the field of psychiatry through exceptional patient care, medical education, and clinical research.
