Who Can Join?
People of all ages and backgrounds can join clinical trials. Each study has rules about who can take part; this is called eligibility criteria. Joining a study is always your choice, and you can leave anytime.
What Happens in a Clinical Trial?
Here’s what usually happens in a clinical trial:
- Talk with the research team: They explain the study in a way that’s easy to understand.
- Learn about the study: This step is called informed consent. You learn the facts and ask questions.
- Decide if you want to join: It’s always your decision, and you can say no or leave the study anytime.
- Study visits: You’ll visit the clinic or site for health checkups and to assess the investigational medication's effect.
Some people get the investigational medication that's being studied. Others may get a placebo so researchers can compare results.
