Dr. Paul Michael Ramirez is a distinguished neuroscientist and clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience advancing research in the central nervous system (CNS). He is a retired Professor of Neuroscience, Neuropsychology, Psychopathology, and Psychopharmacology in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, and a Professor in the Graduate Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Long Island University in New York City.
Dr. Ramirez earned his PhD in Psychology from The City College of The City University of New York, specializing in Clinical Neuropsychology with a subspecialization in Clinical Psychopathology, supported by a National Science Foundation Fellowship. He completed a Postdoctoral Program in Psychopharmacology at Fairleigh Dickinson University and holds an M.Phil. in Neuropsychology, an M.A. in Psychology, and an M.A. in Reading Disabilities with postgraduate study in Learning Disabilities from New York University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ramirez has served in numerous leadership and advisory roles, including President of the Southeast Biofeedback and Clinical Neuroscience Association, Vice President of the New York Academy of Traumatic Brain Injury, and two five-year terms on the New York State Board for Psychology, where he served as Chairman. He has also contributed as a clinical trial expert on the Board of Advisors for the Center for Advanced Studies in India (CASII-Bhuj, Kutch, Gujarat).
Dr. Ramirez has delivered over 200 professional presentations worldwide, providing rater training for CNS scales and cognitive disorder assessments across North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. He is a co-founder and former CEO of the Prophase Training Group (now MedAvante/ProPhase), co-author of the Informant Questionnaire for the PANSS (IQ-PANSS), and co-author of the official Japanese translation of the PANSS. His work as a Principal Investigator has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), and pharmaceutical sponsors, with numerous publications on schizophrenia and other major mental disorders.
