Michael Thakor, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist and Principal Investigator with 30+ years in practice and experience conducting 35+ clinical trials. He founded the Arthritis and Rheumatology Clinic of Northern Colorado in 2002, focusing on high-quality, compassionate care for patients with rheumatic diseases.
Dr. Thakor graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University and cum laude from Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed internal medicine residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Creighton before pursuing rheumatology fellowship training at the University of Arizona, where he focused on rheumatoid arthritis and biologic therapies.
After fellowship, Dr. Thakor worked for the Indian Health Service in Phoenix, caring for Native American patients with rheumatic diseases. He traveled throughout Arizona and Nevada to support patients with rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative spondyloarthropathies, and other rheumatic diseases before later practicing in Omaha and moving to Fort Collins.
Dr. Thakor is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology and a member of the American Medical Association, Colorado Medical Society, and Northern Colorado Medical Society. He also serves as volunteer faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he helps teach rheumatology fellows, residents, and students, and teaches family medicine residents in the Fort Collins Family Medicine Residency Program.
Originally from North Dakota, Dr. Thakor was drawn to medicine by a desire to help people. He chose rheumatology because of its diagnostic and treatment challenges, the long-term relationships it allows with patients, and his admiration for the grace shown by people living with severe rheumatic diseases.
